Domestic pets require sufficient nutrition in the same way humans require nutrition. A homemade dog diet provides your pet with proper nutrition. The government authenticates prepackaged dog food to be of sufficient nutritional values for your dog’s needs. In the same way humans have allergies, some pets have food specific allergies related to manufactured supplemental nutrition. These and other circumstances call for a homemade dog diet. As fact, homemade dog diets aren’t difficult to prepare. Wholesome, natural foods allow dogs to enjoy their healthy nutritional habits.

Advantages of a Homemade Dog Diet

1. Homemade dog diets increase the viability of their current immune system. The dog’s body heals quicker from injury, fights off more infections in less amounts of time and recovers better from allergic reactions.

2. Prepackaged preservatives are not always healthy for your dog. Dogs may actually suffer from more illnesses by consuming certain types of preservatives.

3. Government uncertified prepackaged food doesn’t always have the proper nutritional values your dog needs. The dog may suffer injuries from uncertified prepackaged food.

Components of a Wholesome Diet

Timeless debates discuss what exactly the proper diet means in the order of food consumption by dogs. Some say meat and bones provide the best nutrition, while others claim organic food gives natural, unprocessed energy. There may never be one side of the debate better than the other. Choosing the proper diet for your dog starts and ends with you. The AAFCO defines organic food as to contain no artificial preservatives or coloring. Owner’s can provide organic and meat compounds for a well-balanced nutritional diet.

Homemade Recipes for Dog Food

Your dog will love chowing down on some of the following recipes.

The standard intake for a 20lb dog consist of a 12oz portioned meal.

A good meal includes 4oz dedicated to protein. A good source of protein comes from meat, chicken and eggs.

Carbohydrates make up part of a well balanced diet. Focus 4oz of the meal on providing carbohydrates through cooked rice, pasta, potatoes, or oatmeal.

The last 4 oz of a great homemade dog meal include vegetable ingredients. Vegetables serve a large portion of nutrients needed for proper-daily physiological events.

Avoid adding onions to the mixture since they contain large amounts of sulfur, harmful to dogs.

Mix and match the ingredients above for portioned meals throughout the day or serve them separately, which ever you and your dog prefers.

You can even create tasty gravy to compliment the dog’s homemade meal. Supplements include brewer’s yeast, kelp, wheat germ or milk. Adding a teaspoon of vegetable oil to the mixture provides linoleic oil to form good skin on the dog’s exterior.

Keep up with your dog’s weight to provide proper servings. The proportions described above serve a great baseline for proper servings. 12 oz for a 20lb dog, 24 oz for a 40lb dog and so on. Do not underfeed your pet or it will suffer poor nutritional health issues.

Dog’s physiological compositions change in light of overcoming a disease. Some dogs develop food allergies after or during exposure to a particular disease. Make sure to not include items your dog adversely reacts to.
