Schedule of Crate Training for Puppy when you are Working
Your puppy has arrived and everyone is excited. The most adorable and sweetest puppy you have ever seen. Every one wants to hold the puppy and pet her showing her love and affection. That’s great, you are sure she is going to fit in with the family very well. You start to set back and relax when oops, puppy has an accident. You realize that puppy is like a new baby she has no idea of any house rules. That means you are going to have to start teaching her right away – not later. The first thing would be to create a schedule of crate training for puppy when you are working.
Since you work everyday and the children are in school then puppy will have some time in the home to just play and be free to explore. That is why you should schedule crate training for when you are working. I will explain what a crate is first, it is merely a portable kennel, large enough for you to contain the puppy. It is normally made out of metal or plastic and easy to clean. “Crating” is the practice of using this kennel for training purposes not to be used as a total confinement area for in house training. Dogs have a natural denning instinct that’s why you see them sleep under tables or chairs. Puppies learn from their mothers not to soil their sleeping areas.
When your puppy first arrives have the crate prepared with a good warm blanket and the crate in an easy place for puppy to find and to explore. The use of a treat to get the puppy to go in and out of the crate is a great idea. Leave the crate door open so the puppy can come and go as she wants too. This way the puppy does not become afraid of the crate. Always use a command when you see the puppy go into the crate like I normally say sleepy time. You should schedule your crate training for when you are working on the weekend when you are at home. Normally it only takes a few days to achieve a safe environment that both you and puppy can enjoy.
The first night, make sure that you take the puppy outside to its potty area and wait until she has finished. Then bring her back and put her in the crate beside your bed or on a chair beside your bed. Then turn off all the lights and go to bed. She will probably whine a bit but do not yell at her instead put your fingers in the crate and talk softly to her. She will go to sleep within the hour. I advise you to keep your jogging pants and shirt handy as a
new puppy usually has to go about every four hours. Although, it does not take very long before she can sleep all night long. This is the beginning of setting a schedule of crate training when you are working. I would advise you to leave for an hour or two on a Sunday afternoon after you have taken her to the potty. She will probably whine as you leave as she will not like the idea of being alone, but do not turn back just keep going and she will settle down. The purpose of doing this of course is so that you are starting a schedule of crate training to be used when you are working.
Now, the big day has finally arrived where you must go to work and leave puppy in her crate. The schedule of crate training when you are working now begins. It is important to keep the same routine everyday so that puppy can get use to his new home. I would suggest that you come home at noon everyday to feed and potty the puppy. If it is impossible for you to come home at lunch time then it would be good for you to enlist someone you know to go in and take care of your puppy. I would most certainly make sure the puppy knows this person before they start feeding and potty procedure. After a few weeks the puppy will begin to enjoy the crate and she will feel like this is her home. You will need to schedule crate training when you are working as soon as puppy arrives. This will help maintain a peaceful household which everyone can enjoy including your puppy.
